Book Review: Not So Quiet Library by Zachariah Ohora

By Ali and Victoria Robillard June 7, 2017

Last week in the pouring rain we took a beautiful drive through the town of Rochester. We made a stop at the Plumb Library where we meet Ms. Lisa the Children's Librarian. Ms. Lisa gave us the suggestion for this week's book review.

This week Ali and I are reviewing "The Not So Quiet Library" by Zachariah Ohora.

It is an adorable book about two "brothers" who on their weekly visit to the library encounter something very strange. I like that the book was short with lots of pictures but not a lot of words. It makes it a quick bedtime book that kept my kids engaged. Ali liked the colorful images and she thought it was very funny.

Each Saturday Theodore and Oskar's father brings them to the library for a quiet day of reading. One day their quiet day is interrupted by a commotion. A five headed monster is in the library. This monster hates books! He thinks they are for eating but no matter how hard each head tries they can not get the books to taste good. Just in the nick of time, the librarian comes to start story time and the monster realizes that books sound so much better than they taste. The boys check out their books and promise to return to the library each Saturday and the monster promises to help the librarian clean up the library.

Ms. Lisa's favorite page is the last one when the car is filled with library books. The Plumb Library and all libraries are filled with books just waiting to be checked out! Go visit your local library and check out some books! Ali and I recommend this one and these other ones we checked out this week

  • You Don't Want a Unicorn! by Ame Dyckeman
  • Alphonse, That is Not OK to Do! by Daisy Hirst
  • I'm Brave! by Kate and Jim McMullan
