The Perfect Portrait Plan for the Holidays

Here’s a good sample plan:
* 75 Holiday cards
* Gallery block of the family for over the couch
* Gallery block of the children for hallway
* 2 wall prints for grandparents
* 5 Holiday ornaments for aunts and uncles
      


November 8th: Book your Photographer

Know the style of Photography you like.
Just because you are having portraits done for the holidays, doesn’t mean they can’t be year-round pieces for your home. You can choose a very joy-filled, themed set with lots of props that show your enthusiasm for the season, or a simple fir tree farm that is more subtle and would work year round with your home decor.
Next look for your photographer. Look at their Facebook page which will likely have recent images that show their style of work. Not all photographers will be able to create what you want, especially if you are looking for a mini session. Find someone whose style represents what you want your photos to look like. When you call to book tell the photographer that. Also, talk about how you would like to use your photos after the session.
Clear expectations lead to the best results.
As a side note, if you are going to all this trouble and are going to use these photos for a lot of cards and gifts schedule hair and makeup now.


November 9th: What to wear

I love color, texture, layers, shoes, I love it all.
I suggest to families to pick a color or two, stay in a tonal range either light, medium or dark, and then accent with additional pieces. For example, cranberry - navy- khaki and brown, tan-red-denim-brown are great color combinations. Neutrals are good too like creams with tan and grey. Go with texture (corduroy, a nubbed sweater, ruffled skirt) instead of patterns (stripes or flowers) Minimal accessories are great additions especially a great pair of girls or women’s boots, a scarf, vest, or one statement necklace. Stay away from graphic t’s, any wording on clothing and any black or white.

OK, I always shop. For every session. Even if it’s not mine. I have seen some great solid textured outfits for BOYS! yes, Boys! at Tea! Great wardrobe example:
* coordinating colors without all matching
* mixing up pants and skirt
* mix of short and tall boots
* solids with a little texture on shirts

If you booked a session and received digitals with it, still have an ordering session so that you can decide on the products that would be best for you.
