10 Unexpected Things Local Libraries Are Offering

Virtually, From a Distance, and In Person

By Erin Michael, Plymouth MA Macaroni Kid Publisher March 1, 2021

As libraries are starting to reopen with precautions in place, many are keeping pandemic services available and are adding back old services each day!

1.Book Match!

Been stuck in quarantine too long? Running out of things to read? Many libraries are offering some type of Book Match program. I tried it out at Plymouth Public Library for my three year old - it was such a great service! Simply fill out a form about your interests, and the librarian will email you back with recommendations - and will even leave them for you at curbside pick up!

2. Curbside Printing

Need something printed but don’t have a printer at home? The Plymouth Public Library is now offering curbside printing services. Simply email your printouts to mainlibraryppl@gmail.com and you can print up to 25 FREE pages per patron per day. Printouts will be ready the next business day. PRINTING IS FREE BUT THE LIBRARY IS ALWAYS ACCEPTING DONATIONS. Main Branch Curbside Hours are currently Monday-Friday 10am-12pm, and Saturdays 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm. Available at the Main Branch only.

On Tuesday, March 23rd, the Middleboro library is hosting a “Book and Cook” - an event where families will join together on Zoom for a book and pizza making party with Mama Deb’s Italian Food Truck! Registration is required and space is limited so be sure to register soon! You can find all the details at the link above.

7. Museum Passes

Normally, libraries offer museum passes for a variety of different venues. Due to the times, the museum passes are few and far between. However, as museums start to reopen, more of these passes are becoming available. Recently, I have seen Museum of Science passes start to pop up, so keep your eyes open! The Holmes Public Library in Halifax currently has Science Museum passes for 50 percent off. Click the link above for more information.

8. Adult Crafts

Many libraries have been offering grab and go crafts for kids throughout the pandemic. Some have even offered adult crafts, like the Elizabeth Taber library in Marion. Click the link above to see the latest one!

9. STEAM Projects

Many libraries are offering STEAM projects for kids, but some are even offering all of the materials to go! Click the link above to find out more about the Japanese Book Binding STEAM project available at the Mattapoisett library.
