5 National Parks to Visit in Massachusetts

Celebrate National Park Week!

By Erin Michael, Plymouth MA Macaroni Kid Publisher April 17, 2021

Our family LOVES exploring National Parks and this week is no exception! April 17-25th is National Park Week! Here are 5 National Parks to visit this week in Massachusetts.

Have fun, but please research each park’s Covid restrictions, as the situation is constantly evolving.

1.Cape Cod National Seashore, Coast Guard Beach

Eastham, Massachusetts

While you typically need to pay or have a pass to go to Coast Guard Beach, right now it is free! I took a trip a couple of years ago to Coast Guard Beach, and could not believe there was a beach that was so beautiful, so close. The cliffs are breathtaking!

2. New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park

New Bedford, Massachusetts

Join New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park for their 25th anniversary! Park staff has set up a temporary visitor center where rangers will provide information about local activities and attractions. Keep in mind, park rangers will not be offering walking tours, guided programs, or other special events.

Tip: Walk to Rose Alley Ale House for lunch - and get the buffalo chicken egg rolls!

Fun fact: The New Bedford Whaling Museum was our runner up wedding venue!

3. Boston African American National Historic Site, Black Heritage Trail

Boston, Massachusetts

The Black Heritage Trail is a 1.6 mile walk through the heart of Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood. Learn about past Boston resident’s involvement in the Underground Railroad and how, later, the community struggled and organized for equal rights and access to equal education.

4. Minuteman National Historical Park

Concord, MA

As a Massachusetts native, I cannot believe I have never been to this National Historical Park! Here, you can explore the battlefields and structures associated with the opening battle of the American Revolution!

5. Boston Harbor Islands

Boston, MA

The Boston Harbor Islands are such a beautiful place to visit! They have some great things to offer for National Park Week, too - including storywalks and scavenger hunts!
