5 Easy Swaps to Make Your House WICKED Eco Friendly!

Learn 5 Eco Friendly Swaps with Wicked Eco Shop!

By Erin Michael, Plymouth MA Macaroni Kid Publisher June 27, 2021

We have always tried to make eco friendly choices in our lives. We recycle, try to reuse as much as possible, and try to reduce the amount of energy we use in our home. However, I have a confession. I am addicted to single use products. I LOVE paper towels, Ziploc bags, and disposable sponges. Recently, I have discovered the local shop Wicked Eco and it is making my eco-friendly journey so much easier! Here are 5 ways you can make YOUR house even more eco-friendly.

1. Stop buying disposable sponges - Disposable sponges are wasteful - and let's admit it, pretty gross. The sponge starts to smell after a few days, and just a few days after that, begin falling apart. Ditch the traditional sponge and grab a set of "unsponges" from Wicked Eco Shop. Not only are they a more environmentally friendly and affordable choice, they come in adorable patterns, like the nautical theme I received. When you're finished using it, just wash, dry, and repeat! Each set comes with three sponges so you will always have one handy. Shop unsponges here.

2. Ditch paper towels - Paper towels are my least favorite item to add to my grocery list. They are so annoyingly big, so expensive, and so wasteful. However, I never thought I would be able to quit them. With 2 boys under 3 AND a puppy... paper towels felt like a must. Well, I got a chance to use some of the Wicked Eco unpaper towels, and I am a believer! I use one a day for quick messes in the kitchen, and then throw them in the wash. Don't get me wrong - we still use paper towels for some things, but I have been able to cut down our paper towel usage by about half! Each set comes with four unpaper towels. I got the unpaper towels in this adorable flamingo pattern. Perfect for summer! Shop unpaper towels here.

3. Remove disposable makeup remover pads from your life - You just don't need them! Just like sponges and paper towels, they are wasteful single use items that are expensive too! Grab some reusable makeup remover pads from Wicked Eco - 10 to a pack - and always have one available to use. After using, throw into a small lingerie bag and wash once a week. Wicked Eco even makes sure that the pads are square cut - instead of circles - to reduce scrap waste. Not only are they environmentally friendly, they are so soft on my skin and do a great job of removing all my make up. Shop reusable facewipes here.

4. Use "upcycled" materials whenever possible - Upcycling is the process of taking something you no longer need, and turning it into something even better. Think: turning trash into treasure. Maybe its rehabbing an old piece of furniture, or turning cans into pots. Rosie from Wicked Eco took a previously used shower curtain and old pair of jeans to create this adorable fabric basket. This basket is perfect to hold toiletry items, in a baby's nursery, or as a planter holder! We love using ours as a place to store our unpaper towels! Shop upcycled fabric baskets here.

5. Discover all the uses for reusable cloth napkins - Sure, these reusable napkins are cute, elevate a meal, and make me happy every time I use them. BUT - they are for so much more than just cleaning your hands.  In a pinch, these can be used as an unpaper towel or face cloth for your child. Throw one in your bag when you head to your local bakery and wrap up your leftover scone in it. If you're like me, you might wrap your food in a paper napkin when defrosting in the microwave - use these instead! I have one in my diaper bag, my purse, and in my car console. They also look super cute in my kitchen as handtowels! 😍 Shop napkins here.
