There's a new tutor in town...
Meet Joanna Roderiques of Roderiques Tutoring! Joanna is a certified Orton-Gillingham reading teacher and special educator. She has recently relocated to Plymouth and is starting up her Roderiques Tutoring business here in Plymouth.
As a reading specialist myself, I know how prevalent reading struggles are. I have been following Joanna's Instagram page (@readingwithroderiques) since I first stumbled upon it a few months ago and I am blown away. Joanna knows her stuff - and presents it to students in a unique, engaging, and exciting way.
Joanna received her master's degree in Special Education for Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8) from Simmons University and taught in the Massachusetts Public Schools for 8 years before becoming a full time reading tutor and consultant. She is Orton-Gillingham certified and is also a certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist. Wow!
If your child struggles with dyslexia or reading in general, Joanna wants to meet you! Joanna is hosting a Dyslexia Awareness Program on January 29th from 2:00-3:00pm at the Plymouth Public Library. Get all the details on our event calendar here.
The presentation will be focused on dyslexia awareness and creating confident readers. Joanna will break down the definition of dyslexia, discuss common myths, signs of dyslexia at different ages, effective interventions for dyslexia, and recommendations and resources. There will also be time for Q&A. You will leave with an understanding of dyslexia, as well as best ways to support your reader. Looking for some resources to get started now? Joanna's website offers some great resources for families.
Joanna also offers a variety of tutoring services both out of her home office by Priscilla Beach in Plymouth or online. If you are interested in learning more about tutoring, you can get more information here.
