Meet a Mom!

Meet Amy, Owner of A Mother's Touch Cleaning Co

By Erin Michael, Plymouth MA Macaroni Kid Publisher April 4, 2022

Every few weeks, Plymouth Macaroni Kid will introduce you to an amazing, local mom. Nothing makes us happier than supporting incredible women. I am so excited to have the opportunity to introduce you to some of the Plymouth Area's finest!

This week I would love to introduce you to Amy - the mom behind A Mother's Touch Cleaning Co! While Amy works to help families keep their homes clean - without the hassle - she is also such a kind, generous person who is actively working to make her community a better place! All while being an amazing mama of FIVE! Yes, FIVE! If you've been a reader for a bit, you know Amy from her periodic articles sharing her cleaning expertise. You can read them all in our Spring Cleaning Guide

1. How many kids do you have and how old are they?

5 Kids total: Girl 7, Son 10, Son 11, Son 17, Step-son 18

2. What town do you live/work in? What is your favorite thing about the Plymouth area?

We live in Kingston. Our office is out of Plymouth. We service all of the South Shore. My favorite thing about Plymouth is the historical significance with amazing views.  So many fabulous activities to do with kids and amazing places to eat.

3. What do you like to do for fun with your kids in the Plymouth area? Without your kids?

We have been taking our kids to the downtown area since they were born. We enjoy walking through the Brewster Gardens, watching the boats being loaded and unloaded at the boat ramp. Always a great time going the Captain John boats and the Pilgrim Belle. Walking around the shops are always entertaining such as the Pretentious Pickle, Cupcake Charlies, and the Candy Shoppe. You can make a whole day of it with the kids!

Without our kids (which doesn't happen often haha) we like to go out to eat at the Tavern on the Wharf, East Bay Grille, and hidden gems like Woods Seafood.

4. Tell me about A Mother's Touch Cleaning Co and how it came about. Is A Mother's Touch Cleaning Co your full-time job?

My business started organically which makes it so special! I decided to leave the medical field after 15 years (also working as a parent advocate for a Crisis Team) to be around my children more. I am born to work and move so staying home became not an option very quickly. I didn't know what to do. I wanted to be home to get my kids on the bus, but also home to get them off the bus. I didn't want to miss school vacations either! I bounced around a bunch of ideas but I just didn't have the passion for it. I did clean, so much. I would be at my in-laws cleaning all the time. One day my father-in-law said "Why don't you just clean houses? You are good at it, might as well!" So that's how it started. I came up with a catchy name. A Mother's Touch... it gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling, like your mom stopped by and did your housework for you. A comforting feeling. That's how I wanted my clients to feel. I found a few clients to service, the power of Facebook!! From there I started to clean one house, 2 houses a day. Referrals came in so fast, it was overwhelming! I had to start hiring people to help me all while maintaining my high mom standards I had set. After hiring a few more people, my mother-in-law got involved and became my HR manager to help me with that end of the business which is a job all in itself! I finally convinced my husband to leave his passion of landscape design to come on board, which was scary due to him always being the one who brought in the most money for our home. We were now a team. Working with my husband has been so amazing. My kids help out as much as they can so we truly have a family business that we have grown so fond of!

5. Where can we buy your products and learn more about your business?

On Facebook and Instagram! We love posting before and after pictures to show what we can do to your home!

6. How do you balance work and life? Any tips?

Making myself checklists, the must do's, the not as important etc. I make sure my must do's are completed then if I have time, I chip away at the not as important things. I make sure I spend quality time with my kids and my clients know this. They know I'm always going to, at or leaving a sporting event so it's nice to have the flexibility and understanding of our clients. Sometimes I wait until the kiddos are asleep and hop back on the computer too just to get it done! I love a full plate, it challenges me as a business owner and mom. You are not aware of how capable you are at both until you put yourself to the test! Plus my kids appreciate how hard we work and hopefully this will instill the "work hard" mantra. My husband and I make a point of spending time together after the kids go to bed. We get take-out and talk at the table, my husband is truly my best friend. We try to watch series shows too so we get excited all day to watch the next one! We just cherish any extra minute there is in the day and remind each other that we only have one chance to do this, we might as well enjoy it!

Tell us your favorite places in the Plymouth Area to...

EAT - East Bay Grille

PLAY with kids - Nelson Park or the bike trail

PLAY without kids - Sitting out by the Plymouth Harbor

FAVORITE LOCAL BUSINESS - The Pretentious Pickle, for it's uniqueness

Thank you, Amy!
