Meet a Mom

Meet Nicole, the mom behind School House of Style

By Erin Michael, Plymouth MA Macaroni Kid Publisher September 10, 2022

Every few weeks, Plymouth Macaroni Kid will introduce you to an amazing, local mom. Nothing makes us happier than supporting incredible women. I am so excited to have the opportunity to introduce you to some of the Plymouth Area's finest!

This week I would love to introduce you to Nicole - the mom (and teacher) behind School House of Style. Nicole is a local educator and a boy mom times 3! She also somehow manages to run such a fun Instagram account - meant to share style tips and inspire women of all shapes and sizes! Specifically, teacher mamas. You can also catch her on the Sprezzatura website as one of the boutique's models. Read on to find out how she balances it all - and still finds time for her passion project!

1. How many kids do you have and how old are they?

3 boys (15) (13) (13)

2. What town do you live/work in? What is your favorite thing about the Plymouth area?

I live in Pembroke, and work in Norwell. What I love most about Plymouth is the people and the small businesses. There is so much to do in terms of restaurants, shopping and outdoor activities. There are people of all ages and it seems like new things are always coming in!

3. What do you like to do for fun with your kids in the Plymouth area? Without your kids?

I love to walk the beach or downtown! Plymouth is a beautiful, vibrant time and you cannot beat the views of the ocean.

4. Tell us about School House of Style and how it came about. Is School House of Style your full-time job?

My Instagram is not my full-time job, it is my "passion project". It came about because I get asked a lot about where I buy my clothes and I love talking about style. When I was teaching remotely, it helped me stay connected to my friends from work. Now, I am still able to stay connected to my colleagues and meet so many new people via this app. I even had the chance to become part of the "Support Local Babes" group from Plymouth and work the raffle table at their first market this summer!

5. Where can we buy your products and learn more about your business?

School House of Style is named after the MTV's House of Style which premiered in May of 1989. I was a huge fan! I have a small community of teachers (and others) who follow me. I love posting my every day looks. I hope people feel like the looks are accessible using items they already have, or provide them inspo around what to look for when they shop! It is nice little space to talk about clothes for teachers that are stylish, comfortable, easy to move around in and affordable.

6. How do you balance work and life? Any tips?

Now that I am older, I understand how important friendships are. As hard as it is to schedule time with friends, make a point to do it. Try not to cancel last minute LOL (me!!). Even if you just catch up for a quick walk or a coffee, it will fill your soul and help you remember who you are especially for those of us who sometimes feel we are losing a little of ourselves doing all we do for others every day. Counter to that, I suggest time alone as well. I am an only child with three boys now! My alone time with my Peloton (Cody Rigsby), going for walks outside (now that my street has a sidewalk...game-changer), watching my comfort shows and reading is priceless! I also try to stay current at my job. So many things evolve and grow in the world of education and continuing to learn about the teaching of reading is exciting and fun and helps me remember how important my job really is. That keeps me motivated and balanced. Finally, bi-weekly trip to Stephanie at Natural Nail Bar in Pembroke to talk about Britney Spears.

Does living in the Plymouth area influence your work?

Absolutely! I feature many local, small, women-owned businesses in my posts. I try to shop locally (Pembroke and Plymouth) as much as possible. I also started working at Sprezzatura Boutique this summer and it has changed my life! I have learned so much about fashion and business and have met so many more wonderful Plymouthians this summer!  I am even featured on the website!

Tell us your favorite places in the Plymouth Area to...

EAT

Shelly's Tea Room

PLAY with kids

Our sons are older now but Nelson Street playground, hands-down! Now they love Nova!

PLAY without kids

There are a few fun psychics in Plymouth that my high school friends and I have been to! Very fun for a different night out.

FAVORITE LOCAL BUSINESS

Sprezzatura is my favorite local business. Christine hired me to work there this summer and it has changed my life! I have learned so much. Her store is fun, well-curated for all ages (moms and teachers included), affordable, women-owned and size inclusive XS-3XL. Working there is an actual dream come true! And I'm on the website! LOL.
