4 Local Charities to Support This Season

Donate to or volunteer for local charities this holiday!

While thinking of family and friends this season, be sure to keep local charities in mind. Whether you give your time, donate supplies, or make a monetary donation - anything you can offer will make lives a little more cheery. Here is a short list of local charities to support this holiday season:

1. The Lady Locker

This charity is a personal favorite, with a mission that is so needed for women in our community. The Lady Locker aims to combat period poverty - something I knew nothing about before learning about them - by stocking local schools with basic period/personal hygiene supplies. We have a full article outlining how you can support the Lady Locker here. You can also follow them on Facebook and Instagram

2. Friends of the Plymouth Pound

We've had two rescue pups, and we are filled with nothing but gratitude for the people that helped to rescue them and bring them to our family. While we have never adopted from the Plymouth Pound, we are happy to support any local charity that supports finding animals forever homes. From the website: The Friends and its dedicated and caring volunteers have assisted thousands of animals (owned and strays) by providing support through the groups various programs, which include: low-cost spay/neutering, adoption, and educational outreach. In November 2011, the Friends of the Plymouth Pound Adoption Center opened its doors at the Mall in Kingston.

South Shore Community Action Council

The South Shore Community Action Council is an amazing resource for low income families. The SSCAC helps by offering families opportunities to gain skills and also access supports that may help them achieve greater economic self sufficiency.

From the website: Seeking to eliminate the paradox of poverty in the midst of plenty on our south shore communities by opening to everyone the opportunities for education and training, the opportunity to work, and the opportunity to live in decency and dignity, we join together to strengthen, supplement, and coordinate efforts which may have been made to overcome these problems and thus grant to every individual the opportunity to contribute to the full extent of his capabilities, and to participate in the workings of our society.

4. Save Our Bay

One major dream I have for my boys is to be able to enjoy Plymouth as adults the same way that they did as children. A huge part of our life living here is the ocean - and spending lots of time in it. Personally, anything threatening the waters - and all the animals that call it home - surrounding our town is something we want to stop. Consider making a donation to stop the dumping of contaminated water directly into Cape Cod Bay.
