2019 Macaroni Kid Family Bucket List

Here are 20 things our family wants to do in 2019. Throughout the year I will be checking back and using the #MKBucket19 or #MKBL2019 to check things off the list. You can share our family’s bucket list or create your own with our FREE printable sheets.

Bucket List Printable -  Blank Bucket List Printable

In no particular order.

1)    One day a month go phone and computer free.
Ok, in all honesty this was on my list for last year and we didn't complete it. It is hard to go with out your phone or computer for a whole day. I think I did one day in January and then one day when we were on vacation. But this year I am going make it happen. Today I am planning a Sunday each month when we will put the electronics away and spend time together as a family. Maybe it will get us to check a few more things off our bucket list.

2)    Hike a Mountain

My kids are finally old enough were I think that hiking a mountain will actually be feasible this summer. For the first time I can envision climbing to a summit having a nice lunch and climbing down with out a child melting down along the trail. Bonus: there are many mountains that are easy to hike within 2 hour drive.

3)    Spend a day at the Beach
We are so lucky to have some great beaches in our backyard. January I can’t imagine going to the beach for a minute, let alone for a day. But, I know that soon we will be want to spend the day laying around on the beach. Check out our Macaroni Kid Plymouth's Sand and Sun Guide for local beach fixes.

4)    Learn something New
I love to knit, sew and create things but this year I want to learn a new skill. And since my kids love to create too I think it would be fun to learn something new together. Maybe candle making or soap making.

5)    Go Camping
We LOVE to go camping, we always have a great time. Camping can be as rustic or as glamours as you want. And it is a great time with family that gets away from electronics and more in tune with your family. Here are ten camping tips for an unforgettable trip.

6)    Visit the Providence Children’s Museum
Play is an important part of brain development, and what is a better place to play than a museum just for children. I have never been to the Providence Children’s Museum but I have always wanted to check it out. It isn’t too far in Providence and you don’t have to deal with traffic going to Boston.

7)    Play a game with the family at least once a week
Our family loves to play board games together but often we get so wrapped up in things we have to do that we don’t get to play as often as we would like. We added this to our bucket list so that we have accountability for playing together at least once a week. If you are looking for Board Game ideas check out our Board Game Guide

8)    Visit the Mystic Aquarium
This has been on my bucket list for years and as we were planning the 2019 Macaroni Kid Family Bucket List this was one of the first things we talked about. We are so lucky to have the NewEngland Aquarium so close but the Mystic Aquarium is driveable and they have Beluga Whales, how can you beat that!

9)    Eat More Ice Cream
This year I want to spend more time eating ice cream. I know it doesn't sound like something you would say on January 2nd but it is important. Going to get an ice cream with my family will allow us a moment in time to sit and relax together and enjoy a treat. Look for our ice cream guide coming in late spring. And if you know a great ice cream spot let us know about it.

10)    Visit a library once a week
The library is a great free resource that is more than just books. Last year we were at a library more than once a week last summer but have slacked over the last few months. In 2019 we plan on making it back to the library a lot more. Each week our calendar is filled with Storytimes and other actives that libraries have to offer. Our Libraries have so much to offer check out our Library Guide.

11)    Visit Boston for the Day
There is so much history and culture at our fingertips. This spring I want to spend the whole day in Boston, doing touristy things like the Freedom Trail, the MFA, and the duck boats. There is so much to do so close to home.

12)    Visit the Peabody Essex Museum
This is my favorite museum and Child Magazine named it “one of nation’s top 10 Art Museums for kids.” One of my favorite things is the Yin Yu Tang Chinese House.

13)    Read 365 books as a Family
We plan to read a book a day as a family. It is easy for us because my kids are little so we are reading picture books but it is more the act reading every day than the number of books we will read. Follow along with the #365in2019

14)     Visit Salem MA
I have always wanted to visit Salem around Halloween and I think my kids will really love it. It is a quick two-hour ride so it can be done in a day and there is so much to see and do in the small seaside city.

15)    Spend a day Skiing
Last winter I rediscovered a love for skiing and I can not wait to go back with my family again this year.

16)    Stay on Budget
This may seem a silly thing to put on a Bucket List, but in 2019 staying on our budget is important to our family. So I need to make sure that we stay on budget so that we have the right funds to complete the things we want to do.

17)   Visit Philadelphia
I have always wanted to go to Philadelphia. An old city rich in history will be a great place to take the family on spring break.

18)    Visit NYC
We love live musicals and theater. It is my goal this year to take my family to NYC to see a live show and the lights of New York. (One of the reasons we need to stay on budget- see #16) We could do it on a day trip or a quick weekend away.

19)    Visit Edaville Railroad
Every year we plan to go to Edaville Railroad and every year we never make. It is such a shame because I drive further to school every day than we live from Edaville and my kids are the perfect age for the trains, rides, and games. I feel like if I add it to this list we will actually make it this year.

20)    Visit Southwick Zoo
I am not a huge fan of zoos but I really like the Southwick Zoo. I like that we can do the whole zoo without the kids getting too run down and there is more to see than just the animals.
