You know the feeling of a perfect Saturday? When the sunlight filters through the curtains to wake you and you don’t have to listen to the nagging buzz of your alarm clock. When you sit down for a relaxing breakfast with your family and you don’t have to rush out to soccer or dance. When you spend the day just relaxing and you don’t have to mow the lawn or vacuum the carpet. That perfect Saturday feeling is the feeling you get every day when you are at Sunny Hill Resort in Greenville, New York. Wrapped in the beautiful Catskill Mountains, Sunny Hill is a place families visit year after year. With the motto “Plan not to plan,” the family who owns and operates Sunny Hill takes care of everything. The resort offers a fully inclusive stay with unique experiences in a beautiful setting that creates that feeling of the perfect Saturday every day of the week.

As a busy mom of two busy kids, my life often feels like I am a professional planner. From play dates and birthday parties to dinner and day trips, I feel like I am always the one who must look for the restaurant, the playground or the recipe. The decision fatigue wears on me from time to time. I love spending time with my family, but I don’t always want to be the one thinking about where we are going to have our next meal and what we are going to do, especially while on vacation. (OK, maybe deep down I like the control of making the decision, but it doesn’t mean I don’t find it exhausting at times.) Vacations are often more work than they are relaxing for the planner in the family. But Sunny Hill is different. From the moment you arrive everything is taken care of. There are endless things to do and see within the resort that kept my family entertained for our entire stay. One of the best parts was the meals were all included, which means I wasn’t asking “what do you want to do for dinner” and I wasn’t hearing “I don’t care.” Sunny Hill brought me back to the carefree Saturday’s of childhood where the only decision I had to make was what towel to bring to the pool.
About 1/8 of a mile before you hit the main parking lot of Sunny Hill Resort the road takes a slight turn as you crest a hill and the stunning vista of the Catskill Mountains is in front of you. It feels like a place that you might pull over and take a photo. But that photo would never be quite as good as being there in person. Tinker, whose family has owned and operated Sunny Hill for nearly 100 years told me she still is taken aback every day as the vista opens up through her windshield. The resort was built to capture the views at every moment. From the dining room to the driving range, the wide spans of mountain views are breathtaking. Saturdays like vacations are perfect just to spend time with family but when you can spend that time in a beautiful location it only makes the perfect day better.

Beyond the views, Sunny Hill offers some amazing experiences. From golf at two of the most beautiful courses, I have ever set foot on to riding in military vehicles and monster trucks. Never have we had so much fun in such a short visit. We rode paddle boats, played shuffleboard, swam and splashed. There was entertainment for all ages and too much family fun to do it all. And just like a perfect Saturday from childhood when friends would come over to play, we met so many great people during our short visit. Everyone was welcoming and excited to share with us their beloved Sunny Hill.
I could go on about the amazing things we did and saw at Sunny Hill but what impressed my family the most was the amazing feeling we got by being there. The love and pride the Nicholsen family has for the Resort and Golf Courses is palpable. The family works in every aspect of Sunny Hill and has for almost 100 years. When the Nicholsen Family left Brooklyn and moved to the mountains to take care of a family member with tuberculous, they needed to find a way to support themselves and the farm they purchased. Sunny Hill farm became a bed and breakfast, they invited friends from Brooklyn to visit and stay. From 1919 Sunny Hill has seen generations of families return year after year including one woman who has been coming to Sunny Hill every summer for 80 years! Guests might come back for the amazing views and the activities that Sunny Hill has to offer. But if I had to guess, they come back for that Saturday feeling and the Nicholsen family who make your family feel as though they have been waiting all year for your return.

Just like a perfect Saturday when the crickets start chirping and the air turns cooler, our trip to Sunny Hill ended too soon. But the good thing about Saturdays is that they come around each week and we can return to Sunny Hill soon. My daughter is already asking to plan next years trip with the friends we met this year at table 33A.
