5 Great Parks and Playground We LOVE in the Plymouth Area!

By Erin Michael, Plymouth MA Macaroni Kid Publisher July 19, 2022

We are lucky to live where we do for many reasons - one of them being the amazing parks and playground within the Plymouth area. While we have rounded up a ton of them in our Parks and Playgrounds Guide, this is a list of the ones we love the most!

1.Clark Field Recreation Area Playground

This playground is located near Scusset Beach and the Cape Cod Canal. It is a great place to go for a full day trip!

This park offers play structures, a baseball field, basketball court, a multi use field, and tennis courts. The base of the playground is rubberized and is not fenced in.

We got there around 9:30 am and we were the only ones there, except for one other little girl and her dad. We played for about 45 minutes before it started to fill up!

The playground was great for kids of all ages! At the time we went, my 3 year old had a blast on the bigger structures as well as many different aged children that were there. My one year old loved the swings and the toddler climbing structure, too.

2. Canal Crossways Inclusive Playground

Last summer, we headed out to check out a "new to us" playgrond by the canal in Bourne. Canal Crossways Inclusive Playground was easy to find right off of Main Street. The sign to the entrance was not where you were supposed to park (we ended up parking in an apartment complex lot, but others at the playground said the lot to park was just down the road, and then there was a short path that led to the park- once we go back and park appropriately I will update!).

When we arrived around 9:30am, we were the only ones there for about a half hour. We had so much fun on the swings, inclusive seesaw, and in the music area (especially H!). Soon enough, other families joined us and T so appreciated one of the dads that kept twirling him in the merry go round type toy (thank you Bourne mystery dad!).

The structures were great - and specifically built to be inclusive so that EVERYONE can use them. There were some typical playground structures, but also some very unique ones - they kept my three year old's attention for close to 2 hours and he would have loved to stick around longer! The best thing about this playground is that many of the structures provide wheelchair access.

The base of the playground is rubberized and the playground is in a woodland setting. There is no fence, although the playground was set back quite far from roads and parking lots.

There were tons of trails leading to the canal and one parent mentioned that they are great for running with a stroller! Next time we go, I'd love to spend more time and explore the paths and canal longer.

This gliding swing and the zipline were the most fun parts of the playground, for sure. We can't wait to go back!

3. Buzzards Bay Park in Bourne

May be an image of outdoors

This park is a MUST do for us every summer! Here are some details:

⭐️Park is located right by the railroad bridge in Buzzards Bay.

⭐️Bathrooms are available.

⭐️The playground and splash pad are fenced in.

⭐️Splash pad is closed on Tuesdays for maintenance. We actually went on a Tuesday and got lucky, but I wouldn’t bank on this.

⭐️Within walking distance of the Cape Cod canal - would be a great spot for a bike ride, too!

⭐️The ice cream shop, Mic's Main Scoop is right next door - grab some ice cream for lunch!

⭐️The National Marine Life Center is across the way. Book a Discovery Center visit online and make a day of it!

We had such a blast and can’t wait to go back!

As always, be sure to check before heading there, but water was working when we were there. However, closures and maintenance can happen without notice.

4. HOPS Playground in Halifax

This park is in desperate need of a review on our site, so I'm working on it! Last time we went there, we had such a fun time - I also have hardly any pictures.

The best part of this park is - for sure - their zipline. If you have kids who love a little adventure at the park, this one is it! In addition to the zipline, the park also offers plenty of other fun play structures like climbing toys, slides, and swings.

There is a covered pavilion with picnic tables that would be perfect for enjoying a snack or eating a packed lunch.

The Halifax public library shares a parking lot with the park. Add on a storytime at the library and make it the perfect outing!

5. Captain Fred L. Bailey Playground

his playground was a little hard to find, but once we did we were not disappointed. The playground is tucked between Summer St and Landing Rd in Kingston. It took us a few drive bys to figure out where to enter. I stopped to snap a photo of this sign on Landing Road because I wish I had seen it sooner! Turn left when you see this sign and follow the road to the parking area for the playground.

The playground was full of unique climbing structures and slides. However, some of the structures were very tall. They did have an area for younger children, but of course my three year old wanted to climb the big ones. My one year old had a blast on the baby swing and toddling around on the smaller equipment. I did not see any bathroom facilities.

An added bonus? We were there around 9:30 and stayed until 11:00. We timed it to see the commuter rail fly by! And Thomas has not stopped talking about it.

When visiting events and local businesses, be sure to tell them Macaroni KID sent you... and don't forget to tell all your friends!
